John P. Stamato, MD, MPA, FACRO
Radiation Oncologist
Clinical Director

Dr. John Stamato, a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, heads up the team at the Center.

A Radiation Oncologist is a medical physician who specializes in Radiation Oncology. Training includes four years of college; four years of medical school, one year of internship, and four years of residency training in Radiation Oncology.

When a patient is referred for consultation, Dr. Stamato will see the patient, take a complete history, and perform a detailed physical examination. All medical records are reviewed, as are all x-rays, CT Scans, MRI’s, and all other diagnostic, laboratory and pathology findings. A thorough understanding of all these factors is required to prescribe a course of treatment which will ensure the greatest success in the treatment of the cancer. An individual treatment plan is then developed which includes localization of the tumor to define the exact location, extent, and volume of the tumor. Vital organs, which are located within and adjacent to the treatment field, need to be identified to ensure they are protected from radiation. Selection of treatment modalities defines the most effective combination of radiation by selecting the proper combination of high energy photons and electrons. Dose prescription and schedule is calculated using the prescribed dose to effectively treat the tumor; this includes the number of treatments, frequency and total dose.

Dr. Stamato received his Doctor of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Radiation Oncology, where he was also Chief Resident. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington. He is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology, a full member of the American College of Radiation Oncology, the Wyoming Medical Society and a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology. He holds medical licenses in the states of Wyoming, Montana, and Indiana.
