Marta’s role with the Welch Cancer Center revolves around her specialty in the treatment and prevention of lymphedema. Lymphedema is an illness that causes swelling of the arm or leg due to an obstruction of the lymphatic vessels. Lymphatic vessels are tiny thread-like vessels that carry fluid out of the body’s tissues and back into the blood circulation. When the lymphatics are blocked, fluid builds up in the region of the body served by those vessels. Physical therapy can also address issues of fatigue or weakness. Wyoming Rehabilitation can provide exercise and physical therapy for the cancer patient. Marta is a Physical Therapist, Certified Wound Specialist, and a Certified Lymphatic Therapist. She received her B.S. in physical therapy from Mount St. Mary’s College, CA; and her lymphatic certification in June of 2003 from Cedar Haven Rehabilitation in Cedarhaven, Wisconsin. She has been with Wyoming Rehabilitation and Sheridan Memorial Hospital since 1995. |
